ConocoPhillips confirmed today it is evaluating whether to eliminate or relocate some 700 non-refinery and non-pipeline jobs in Ponca City.

Some jobs being considered are related to administrative pipeline functions.

A spokeswoman said the company announced the evaluation to its employees Wednesday.

The evaluation should be completed by the end of January, she said.

Obama is the antichrist, and despite not being in office until January, he is responsible the idiocy practiced for the the last eight years.

I don't understand how people are bring Obama into this. He had absolutely nothing to do with the current economy. Give the man a chance, after 2 years we can have a better grasp on how he is as a president.

Except for the local government in Ponca City we've known its been coming for a couple of years. What effect will this have on all of the additional tax projects that have been approved by the voters. If your offered a transfer its not a problem. Without a job how are you going to pay the taxes? Think about this when you vote on the YMCA tax in December.

If a dollar turns over 4 to 6 times before it leaves the community then think about the impact to the Ponca City economy. Calulate it for yourself but keep in mind that your calculator may be short of digits!

Phillips pisses me off. They gave a ton of jobs from Ponca to Bville and Housto when they merged. Ponca had gotten mostly lower educated lower income refinery jobs since then. Pretty much everything that was in the towers is gone. They've tried to fill it with research grants from OSU and with other companies, but it is pointless. Ponca is a town that shouldn't be dying but due to Phillips, it is.

Uh, Reagan was the one that introduced outsourcing. Remember when we still had textile manufacturing in Okie Land? I believe many of them moved to Guatamala and Honduras during Reagan's tenure. As far as the
Chinese, well, Nixon opened that door. Speaking of, under Nixon, taxes on the wealthy were at 70%.

It's a damn shame. My hometown is wasting away because of stuff like this. When I drive past the complex, it looks like a ghost of its former self.

THE LARGEST ECONOMIC EXPANSION IN OUR COUNTRY'S HISTORY......It was the largest on a global plane, not here in the U.S. Our jobs were given to Abdul and Jianxing, not Abe and Paul....Where did industry go?

Better review your history some...Clinton was the yahoo who did all this, and the Unions only drive the point home more and more every day.....

Kevin, Bill Clinton outsourced the jobs. That was his baby. Hillary couldn't believe he was in favor of outsourcing. Don't you remember that?

By the way Icon and Pickens raided Phillips and made them buy them out. Conoco was taken over by Dupont who spun them off later. Conoco and Phillips has a "merger of Equals" which meant Phillips paid Conoco's CEO a ransome for Conoco of over $30 million. Conoco srtockholders got no bonus, just an equal value of Phillips stock. That was a highjacking of about $27 a share for Conoco stockholders according to experts who handle mergers of this size. Conoco shareholders got about $28 per share while analysts figure they should have gotten $55 per share. That would have cost Phillips a lot more than the bonuses they paid to Conoco Execs. Another hit was many Conoco employees lost their jobs. Phillips people did not lose many. No Conoco vice presidents (they had about 30)are left. Can you imagine? They was no Conoco vice president that measured up to Phillips people out of 30. You would think there would be one. I am glad I retired before all of this happened. Why do I care? One reason, they are still hammering poor old Ponca City.

Hey, couldn't Ponca City just move to Stillwater, where Pickens apparently is redistributing the wealth?

We'll take any color as long as we can get bodies. Heck we have empty buildings and houses. Our churchers are suffering. They have empty space. Need a cheap house that is wonderful? Come to Ponca City. You will get a great deal soon. Comparines like this
don't care about facilities. They are crowded in Bartlesville and are emptying more offices and labs in Ponca. They will built more facilites in B'ville at the drop of a hat. That is not even factored in to the equation. Someone on high says to move, you move-- or you can drive 70 miles one -way, but your job will be elsewhere. B'ville or Houston or wherever. It's been that way for years. Consider yourself lucky if you keep your job. Many do not.

Boone Pickens and Carl Icon pretty much raided all of Conoco's assets and all that's left in Conoco is a skeleton crew. I know an accountant who lost his job right after Pickens made his run on the company. He went into severe depression and never fully recovered. Then came the Dupont era where it was even worse for the town of Ponca City. The movie "Other People's Money" comes to mind as what happened. The most strange thing is that all the fuel stations in Ponca City are higher than those in Oklahoma City. Go figure that one.

Obamanomics at it's best. It's called the "Black Deal". Shut it down, then open it back up with blacks and illegals.
Barry, Soetoro - Nov 6, 2008 at 4:13 pm
and the fact that they could probably in proportion pay them 1/8 to 1/3 less salary and still be comparable to living in Houston. It makes me sick for Oklahoma, and I do not even live in that area. I hope for Ponca's sake they back off the cuts.

You would think that they would be looking at relocating people there because of the lower cost of living than Houston. I heard last year they were out of office space in Houston and it was too expensive to add more. Why would they give up on Ponca City when they own the land and offices.

From what I hear, the oil industry has a hard time budgeting. When oil is low, they seem to think the price will never go back up, and when the price is high, they seem to think it will never go back down. I think they would do better to cut the jobs of some of those genius MBA types. Yeah, its probably Obama's fault, despite the fact we've had an idiot in the White House for almost eight years, and Obama won't be there until next year, and despite the fact that he's only proposed taxes for affluent be raised to where they were under Clinton, when we had THE LARGEST ECONOMIC EXPANSION IN OUR COUNTRY'S HISTORY.
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Nov 6, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Hey, maybe they will build that pipeline from the White House to Ponca City to help Obama spread the wealth....2 birds, 1 stone.

Wor is out that they have evaluated in 15 minutes and it will happen to the tune of 700 suffering souls. Lord have mercy on our chuches and businesses. This has now gone on for years, but thank goodnesswe can't go on much longer, we are approaching zero. One woders if we would'nt be better off if they had killed us all off at one time when Phillips took over several years ago. We just linger on. Dying by a thousand cuts.
