LUTHER — Two Oklahoma County deputies lifted a car off a 63-year-old man Tuesday in a desperate attempt to save his life, but the man later died at a local hospital, Oklahoma County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Myers said.

A Luther police officer pulled the man from under the car. The man, whose identity was not released, was flown in critical condition to OU Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead, Myers said.

About 5 p.m., the man was working on a four-door Saturn in a driveway on First Gravel Road south of Memorial Road when the car fell on him, Myers said. Someone at the house called 911.

The two Oklahoma County deputies and Luther police officer were first to arrive at the scene and found the man, who was not breathing and whose skin had turned blue, still pinned under the car, Myers said. After freeing him, the three performed CPR until paramedics arrived and briefly revived the man before he was airlifted away, Myers said.
