NORMANKent Bradford, the father of Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, said his son is taking the time to make sure his decision about whether to stay in school or declare for the NFL Draft is the right one.

"I think he kind of knows what he would like," Kent told The Oklahoman in a phone interview Tuesday. "He's just trying to be sure that his choice is the actual proper choice."

Kent said he didn’t know when his son would make an announcement, but that it would probably go through the university.

“When he feels it’s right,” Kent said, “he’ll let the right people know.”

Sam, who Kent said received a first-round projection from the NFL Draft Advisory Committee, is projected by most draft analysts to be one of the top-two quarterbacks taken in the draft if he comes out.

The Sooners are still waiting on the decisions of junior tight end Jermaine Gresham and junior offensive tackle Trent Williams, who have both said they're considering leaving early for the NFL. Gresham received a first-round projection from the Advisory Committee; Williams, a second-round.

The trio has until midnight Thursday to declare for the draft. Players who declare have 72 hours after the deadline to change their minds, assuming they haven’t hired an agent.

Tuesday was a busy day for Bradford family. Tuesday morning, Sam was honored at a ceremony in the morning by Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, who declared Jan. 13 “Sam Bradford Day.”

Sam was spotted wearing the cast again on his injured left thumb, after he wore just a splint preparing for and during the BCS National Championship.

But Kent said the plan was always for Sam to wear the cast again for about a month after the title game as he recovers from torn ligaments.

Greg you are a moron to think someone who won the heisman last year and won two championships would be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round. You need to go back to the basics and watch more football. You dumb sooner fans put this guy on a pedestal...He has NEVER WON A CHAMPIONSHIP!!! You guys make it look like he was won 4! Damn, this guys is such a 'great' leader he can't win EVEN 1! He chokes under pressure! He'll never be a 'great' player like you think.

adam, you are a moron. tebow is projected as a H-back in the pros, maybe a 2nd rounder, but more likely lower. bradford would be a top 5 pick. if you want to argue that he's a better overall player, fine, but you are a moron if you think he's a higher draft pick.

Tebow would be greg. He is a more rounded fb player. Bradford can't run worth sh**. bradford is a one dimensional player. 2nd or 3rd round? You must still have a bad taste in your mouth matt. By the way where can I find ou national champs t-shirts?
Jason, Tulsa - Jan 14, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Tebow isnt going pro he said but Bradford would be higher anyway. They projected Tebow to be a second or third round pick.

Have you noticed that Heisman Trophey winners that played college football in the state of Oklahoma play pro football in Detroit? Why is that? Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Barry Sanders...Sam Bradford? The three had good careers in Detroit but never made it to a Super Bowl. Sam this OSU Cowboy wishes you the best! If Detroit has contacted you and said that you're going to be the first pick of the draft...then I would stay in school.

Sam Bradford is a finance major w/a 3.95 GPA. So if money is his only issue, we should be talking about which of his 3 mansions he'll spend his off-seasons in. He's a smart young man & is probably being lambasted w/all the what-if's from all directions. It sounds like he's being his typical "cool & calm in-the-pocket" before he decides in which direction to pass his future, & he makes good decisions. Best of luck to you, Sam. (By the way, for all we know, he could decide to stay 2 more years.)

I changed my mind Sam. Like David down below said, the O line is leaving and those talented receivers are going except one. So go and enter the draft and hope the Vikings trade up to get you. I would hate to see your talent wasted in another BCS game under an offensive system that cannot put talented guys like yourself in position to win the big ones.

Sam stay at Norman. With the Sponsors of Detroit Lions football struggling to sell cars, there may not be a football team there much longer. Or even worse, you might wind up playing for a team with below average talent for years to come.

And with the first pick in the 2009 draft, the Detroit Lions select Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

"underclassman"
Jerry, Atlanta - Jan 13, 2009 at 11:10 pm
The only underclassmen ready for the NFL is possibly McCoy. He's staying and so should the other underclassmen.
Jerry, Atlanta - Jan 13, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Sam has a big decision on his hans obviously. I still think he goes especially if Williams and Grisham go. With Igleasias, Cheney and Manny gone as well. Then again he is a one of a kind that really values the opportunity to finish some unfinished business. Whatever the decision rather it be back in the Crimson #14 or a Lions Jersey(should they not trade down) I wish him the best.

Please don't go, don't gooooooooooooo! Please don't go, don't gooooooooooooooooooooo! as the song goes. I still think Tebow is a show boat. Why don't any of the other players get their picture plastered all over SI and the TV like mr. tbow? Big ole show off! and the 3:16 under his eyes. makes me want to weep!
Robert, Denver - Jan 13, 2009 at 10:18 pm

Hey Sooner fans, this is Sam, I have decided to________________________________________________________________and the rest of the story in just a minute. This is Paul Harvey-----Good night!

David, college athletes can and do insure every year. Doesn't mean he should stay though.
Joshua - Jan 13, 2009 at 10:03 pm
- Offensive line is leaving (the one that gave him hours to pass).

- Risk of Injury - collegiate athletes can't insure.

- Anything could happen at OU next year, nothing he could do would INCREASE his dollar value.

- The "collegiate experience" is overrated (not to mention he's had one).

- 30-50 million dollars is on the table with a nod from Sam. C

*** Considering the above - would any of YOU stay? Really? ***
David, Oklahoma City - Jan 13, 2009 at 9:48 pm
If Tebow is lucky, he will be an NFL back in the mold of Paul Hornung of Notre Dame. A running back who can throw the ball in an option situation. Nothing more. In today's game he will be a "wild hog" type of back. Not a quarterback, not a running back. But a siturational back, not commanding much money. Bradford, on the other hand, has a chance to be a really good quarterback, but could use another year of experience and maturation. Will he go: don't know but would say that he could benefit from another year of college play. Even then, he may not go as high. My prediction, he will stay for another year.

If he were stayin I think he would have made the announcment during the OU-UT game on big Monday in front of a big crowd. I think hes gone, but thats just my take. When Woods came back to OSU for his Sr. year, he announced it in front of a big OSU basketball crowd.
Bobby, holdenville - Jan 13, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I hope he stays. Here's why. College comes once in a lifetime, and the mark andmemories are indelible. For an example, check out this pic of Wayman Tisdale. This is right after he had his partial leg amputation from bone cancer:

Notice the logo on his prosthesis. Is it the Pacers? Nope. The Suns? Nah. Kings? No. It's OU. Wonder why that is? Of all the things he could have picked, he picked the OU logo. That, to me, says volumes. Check it out. Good luck Sam!

I am a Longhorn fan and whatever Sam Bradford decides to do I wish him the best of luck. If he stays at Oklahoma than I wish him all the success in the world and I hope he has another great season. If he goes to the NFL I wish him the same and more since he will be at the next level. A quarter back of his caliber makes a conference great and 2008 was the year of the QB.
Good Luck Sam Bradford on your decision.
