Garth Brooks no longer retired

Oct 15Garth Brooks says he’s coming out of retirement. George Lang and...

Was he ever wrong.

Tickets for Brooks' first 20 shows at the Wynn Las Vegas resort sold out in less than five hours. The resort said Saturday it reached maximum capacity for callers at 141,934, with many getting busy signals.

Officials say the ticket Web site had more than 5.4 million page views with 40,000 waiting to buy tickets online at one point.

Brooks announced a five-year deal with casino owner Steve Wynn last week that includes 15 weeks of shows a year in the Encore theater, which seats about 1,500. Tickets were $125 plus fees.

Brooks, the best-selling solo act in history, plays Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of select weeks beginning Dec. 11.

He is a horse's rear. Ask anyone who went to school with him at OSU.

P.T. Barnum had it right when he said, "There's a sucker born every minute"...no one else would go see this no talent ass clown.

Kevin...was I incorrect?

Did Garth bring his little make believe friend with him to 'Vegas. The one he told Leno about
years back that is his altered ego. There isn't any such thing as an altered ego with Garth.
Maybe stay out there with all the fruit-vakes where he belongs.

Tony, an obvious Swooner fan who probably sleeps with a Toby Keith cutout.
Jealous much, Tony? Do you have any talent? Besides whining like a little school girl?!

That's true Jeff, Jacksonville but even after the point of being has beens, entertainment is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Crystal Gayle did a show for our credit union's annual meeting a couple of years ago. She sounded amazingly good and the crowd loved her and her crazy sister Peggy was just a hoot. Several people that got a close up view said she is still beautiful. I happen to like Garth, maybe because my younger bro looks so much like him (he won one of Garth's hats some years ago in a look-a-like contest).

Agree completely with the comment by Albert about Garth being a "drama queen". Hard to know who Garth really is because he's the biggest phony baloney to ever grace the stage! Vegas should be the logical first step to Branson and Riverwind--that's would be consistent with his talent level!

I can't believe all the hate from a bunch of Okies. Jealous? It's the perfect deal for both Garth and his fans. It's like touring without being on the road. The fans come to him. Let's face it. He's getting to the age where touring is rough on an old body. All stars get to the point of being has beens, and I'd really be surprised if this does anything for his creativity. His last album ( scarecrow? ) wasn't exactly extraordinary. Maybe he'd be more at home in Branson.

Garth lost me as when he appeared on Oprah's show in a pair of pajamas ...If he hangs with her type I know he is not for me...plus I can only take about two seconds of that Twangy whining crap...John (urban cowboy) Travolta is more country than him...

Not impressed with Mr. Greedy - he can't play in Oklahoma - he couldn't play during the 100 year state celebration - I agree, he is a sell-out. Yukon should charge him for the naming rights on the street sign.
Lawerence, Oklahoma City - Oct 26, 2009 at 11:57 pm
What? He's not playing the Riverwind Casino?
craig, Oklahoma city - Oct 26, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Actually it's a perfect match, Garthy ought to fit in well with the other melodramatic show girls on the strip. He is such the drama queen.
ALBERT, BETHANY - Oct 26, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Gail, it's not about the money. It's always about fame and continuing your shining star before it implodes into obscurity.
Boomer, Washington - Oct 26, 2009 at 7:02 pm
I taught Garth everything he knows!!

OK, well, at least I'd try to get your attention. John, what pray tell, glorious music do you listen to! Enlighten us, John OKC, just try to enlighten us. And let us criticize your lame ass music.
Boomer, Washington - Oct 26, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Notice Garth went to Vegas, even he's smart enough not to try and stay in this craphole.
Cletus, Mayberry - Oct 26, 2009 at 6:35 pm
I wouldn't take $1000 to go listen to that twangy ass crap.

Good grief guys, if you lived with 3 teenage girls wouldn't you want to go back to work? Especially if you could work in Vegas and then fly home in between? Maybe the reason Garth came out of retirement is because he can and apparently some folks are just downright happy he did. Now get your panties out of a wad and try to get along. :)

I kinda agree with Kevin. You sell your soul to Walmart and then come back in Vegas?

Wow, Chris, you ARE crap. You attack just about anybody for writing anything you didn't think of first...
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Oct 26, 2009 at 4:59 pm
It's my understanding that Garth and Wynn are partners on Garth's return. If this is the case, every show should be a sell out, at any cost, even if the tickets are free or comped.
UnSub, Yukon - Oct 26, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Wow Kevin. You just type crap. Garth didn't sue. He bitched about not getting a % of sales of used cd's, then his record label decided to not ship his new cd's to stores that sold used cd's. Simple as that. Garth didn't sue. Besides, I'm sure if you were in Garth's position, you would have just laid back and enjoyed it...right?
Chris, Jones - Oct 26, 2009 at 2:55 pm
There are lots of places close to the Wynn to stay if you don't like the room prices. To get Garth Brooks at $125 a pop in that small of a theater is a fair price. I paid approximately the same amount to sit outside with 60,000 other people and suffered through bad sound, a long distance view, and U2 playing just about any song out of their repetoire but a hit.
Steve, Oklahoma City - Oct 26, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Sell out? Brooks sold out many years ago. Remember when he sued because he wasn't getting a piece of the action from used CD's?
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Oct 26, 2009 at 2:25 pm
I stayed at the Venetian for $89/night by booking through Hotwire. Most of the 4 star resorts can be had for as little as $45/night through the week through Hotwire as well. Why pay full price? The Encore/Wynn was OK, but a little too over the top. Still, I don't mind that as long as I get a great deal. Some of the downtown properties were as low as $19/night through the week-Vegas is hurting and definitely pulling out all the stops to get people to come. It's almost like the good ol' days of rock bottom hotel rooms and food prices. Almost.

Wow. We are talking the money crowd here at the Encore/Wynn. Its the casino with a functioning Ferrari dealership. At certain angles the Encore has like a gold sheen when the Sun is right. The Wynn is not my cup of tea. I'm glad Garth can still pull in the crowds and should be able to sock more way for the kiddos although I'm not sure their trust funds need any help. Vegas has been rather flat lately with the departure of Celine and the forever canceled show of the tiger twins.
I am interested in staying at one of my favorite spots, The Tropicana. They supposedly just upgraded again although I think it means they replaced the old tv's with LCD's. But they do have the new "Lets Make a Deal" show. I'm thinking of going out but cannot decide on a costume.
