Warm, dry conditions will continue across Oklahoma on Wednesday.
The
National Weather Service said high pressure moving across the southern Plains will keep any precipitation at bay for several days. Temperatures should reach or surpass average levels.
On Tuesday, skies were mostly clear and temperatures ranged from 65 degrees in Clinton and
Enid to 73 degrees in
McAlester. The mercury peaked at 69 degrees in
Frederick,
Lawton and
Tulsa, and reached 70 in Guthrie,
Oklahoma City and
Stillwater, according to the weather service.
Southerly winds are expected to increase in the next few days, drawing more warm, dry air into the state. As a result, the wildfire potential will be high or very high on Friday and Saturday over western Oklahoma and western
North Texas, the weather service warned.
Temperatures are expected to top out in the 60s and 70s under sunny skies on Wednesday. Lows Wednesday night should dip into the 30s and 40s under clear skies.
Clear conditions are forecast for Thursday through Saturday, with highs reaching the 70s and 80s.
Temperatures should top out in the 70s on Friday and Saturday, then fall into the 40s and 50s both nights, according to the weather service.
Southeast Oklahoma will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday as skies turn partly cloudy statewide.
Daytime highs should reach the 60s and 70s, forecasters said. Lows Sunday night should bottom out in the 40s and 50s.
