MUSKOGEE (AP) — Muskogee police say one person was shot during a fight with an officer who had stopped a suspected stolen car.
Police Cpl. Michael Mahan told the Muskogee Phoenix that police officers had stopped the car shortly after noon Thursday and that the passenger got out and tried to take an officer's gun from its holster.
Mahan says another officer on the scene then opened fire, but that it wasn't immediately known if it was the passenger or the driver who was shot.
The names of the officers involved and the wounded person were not immediately released.
A spokeswoman for Muskogee County Emergency Medical Services says the man who was shot was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen that is considered life-threatening.
