Bridge planned for Deer Creek

Plans are coming together for the Deer Creek portion of the 2008 county bond issue initiative for floodplain mitigation projects, but the bulk of the work has yet to commence.

Oklahoma County Engineer Stacy Trumbo said plans are to construct a $12 million bridge that would provide and emergency route to and from the unincorporated area during flooding events.

In Crutcho, heavy rain means flooded homes; but in Deer Creek, impassable roads are the problem.

Floods are so common at Deer Creek — home to about 7,000 people — that the school district has designated rain days in addition to snow days, Trumbo said.

Using the same federal matching grant formula as in Crutcho — a dollar of county money gets three from the feds — the plan is to build the bridge on MacArthur Boulevard between Danforth Road and Covell Road.
