12 to compete for title of Miss UCO 2010
Miss Oklahoma 2005 will serve as this year’s master of ceremonies

EDMOND — Twelve contestants are competing for the title of Miss UCO 2010. The pageant is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 in Constitution Hall in the University of Central Oklahoma’s Nigh University Center.

Miss UCO is a preliminary event to the Miss Oklahoma and Miss America pageants and offers scholarships and tuition waivers close to $8,000.

Jennifer Warren Zabel, a UCO graduate, Miss UCO 2004 and Miss Oklahoma 2005, will serve as this year’s master of ceremonies for the pageant, titled Hearts of Bronze and Blue.

This year’s contestants are: Lindsey Allen, Lawton, freshman, major undecided; Amanda Barfield, Broken Arrow, senior, photographic art; Julie Christian, Owasso, junior, political science; Adriana English, Oklahoma City, senior, sociology; Michelle Gallimore, Lawton, freshman, dance; Heidi Heineman, Tulsa, sophomore, public relations; Natasha Irons, Broken Arrow, junior, public relations; Sarah Landrum, Mustang, junior, accounting; Chasity Ross, Muskogee, junior, business management, pre-dental hygiene; Stephanie Villanella, Skiatook, sophomore, biology; Emily Weeks, Lawton, sophomore, dance; and Claudia Williamson, Oklahoma City, sophomore, secondary education.

Tickets will be available at the door for $10.

Is this Miss White UCO or Miss Black UCO, or Miss Asian UCO? And why do we as a modern post-segregation society still have these multiple pageants for different races? Can a black woman not win Miss UCO? Can a white woman win Miss Black UCO?
