The president's approval signifies federal funding will be made available to help pay for infrastructure repairs and response costs related to flooding and other severe weather that occurred March 17 through March 23, said Michelann Ooten, spokeswoman for the state Department of Emergency Management.

The 13 counties approved for public assistance are: Adair, Haskell, Hughes, Latimer, Mayes, McCurtain, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Pittsburg, Pushmataha and Sequoyah, Ooten said.

The Department of Emergency Management estimates the storms inflicted $5.4 million in damage to these areas, with the majority of the cost related to roads and bridges.
