13 Texas airports lose money for traffic control

DALLAS (AP) — Thirteen small Texas airports will lose federal money for staffing air traffic control facilities as the Federal Aviation Administration works to trim hundreds of millions of dollars from its budget.

The FAA on Friday released a final list of 149 cuts nationwide. The agency must cut $637 million from its budget for the fiscal year that ends in September.
The Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport, Dallas Executive Airport and Collin County Regional Airport are three of the 13 airports affected.
If the cuts go through, those airports will not be shut down, but pilots will have to coordinate takeoffs and landings by radio with no help from the ground.
