Low-interest loans and other federal assistance will be available to eligible farmers and ranchers in 14 northwest Oklahoma counties, including the three Panhandle counties, the governor's office announced Tuesday.

The U.S. Agriculture Department has issued an agricultural disaster declaration, which will make farm operators in those counties eligible for low-interest loans, according to the governor's office.

The designation also will let farmers and ranchers postpone for one year paying taxes on any grain or livestock sold early due to the drought.

Extreme heat, dry weather, high winds and lack of rain have damaged hay forages, livestock grazing lands, alfalfa and other crops.

Farmers and ranchers in the counties are eligible to be considered for aid. Local Farm Service Agency offices can provide further information.
