1st-and-45 no problem for OU
Published: November 1, 2009
NORMAN — Ryan Broyles dug the Sooners out of a 1st-and-20 hole by scoring on a short pass from 38 yards away late in the third quarter, but a pair of penalties put the Sooners in an even deeper hole they later escaped from.

Broyles was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play and the touchdown was called back because of a holding penalty, putting the Sooners in a near-impossible 1st-and-45 at their own 37-yard line.
DeMarco Murray had a three-yard run and an 18-yard reception in the flat before quarterback Landry Jones gave Broyles a chance to atone for his earlier mistake.
The sophomore receiver caught a short pass on 3rd-and-24, making a trio of Kansas State players miss, and sprinting down the right sideline, making it just past the first down marker for a 25-yard gain.
"I thought he had a chance," Stoops said. "As soon as he caught it, I started yelling, 'Make 'em miss!" and sure enough, he does."

I have never advocated getting rid of Stoops and I don't just show up when they don't win by 20, I show up every week advocating for the change of our coordinators and have been saying so for over 4 years now for Venables ands 3 for Wilson. Both are exactly like Blake, excellent position coaches, excellent recruiters, but way over their heads with their current responsibilities. There is no discipline, no accountability for busts, and contary to your reality, absolutely no year to year improvement. We can get to the championship game but can't win it. And why is that? Because we get out coached when we play a team with similar talent.
I am certainly no fair weather fan. Just so you know, I remember sitting in the stands with my Dad and Grandfather and watching the crowd throw the free KerrMcGee "Go Gomer" seat cushions on the field for the product he put on the field. I watched Jim McKenzie, and later became friends with his family, come in and start the Switzer dynasty by bringing in the key people; Fairbanks, Lacewell and Switzer who was the coach when I played. I graduated from OU and have had season tickets since 1983. My dad who played for Bud and graduated from OU still has his tickets too. If you don't think there are rumblings by ex-players, you are sadly mistaken. Whether you agree with them or not is beside the point. News flash bucko: many ex-players are not happy with the arrogance and ridiculous explanations coming from the coaching staff as to what the issues inside the program have been over the last 5 years. This is not a one year problem, it's just that this year may thankfully and finally bring it all to a head. Remember, we had a coach say this offensive line got their act together over the summer and are better than last years. Yeah, right and that's just one example the problem. Everyone associated with the program knew this was going to be a rebuilding year whether Bradford came back or not, but that was not the public expectations laid out by our coaching staff. Why would they do that ------- could it be another example, like their egos.
Why do you think KState was able to rout the defense in the 2nd half? Probably had nothing to do with Synder and staff making adjustments at half time and continued to make in the half due to all all the busts that were occurring. Had nothing to do with our half-time adjustments. We made 1 and that was essentially to stop blitzing because we had too many busts exposing the secondary which were having their own busts.
Josh, I have every right to be angry about the direction of the program and when you're in the Lounge next home game be sure to look me up. I'm there every home game and we can discuss this in person. I'm not hard to find, I'm part of the group advocating for change in the program. Our problem is we, collectively, don't give enough money. Ah wait, I can't say that, it's part of the politic thing that you chose to ignore.
Also, injecting politics into your discussion of college football only serves to dilute any possible effect your argument may have. Do you not realize college football is not near that important? Jerry's point was that fair weather fans (people like you, if your comments on here are to be taken at face value) are worthless, as they jump ship and whine at the first sign of adversity. Fair weather fans do not allow for positive growth in a program, as they want change at the first sign of any trouble. Change just for the sake of change is not conducive to success.
By the way, ridiculous comments about people forming their own version of reality just make you look stupid. Next time, stick to the discussion about college football.
If those inside the OClub took the saged advice formed from your infinite wisdom and hadn't voiced displeasure about the state of the program, changes, including the hiring of a new AD that lead to the changes that lead to getting Stoops would never have occurred. Surely, the logical thought process that formed your conclusion took those facts before you ranted. NC number seven never happens.
Yeah, we'll stick to your advice and continue to watch undiscipined and unprepared teams take the field every week each year. Sounds much like the Gibbs ear there doesn't it? Resenting ex-players and OClub members, calling them fairweather fans, real smart. I'll bet your a member of Mensa too.
Now I have some advice for you, see a doctor and quick There is a cure for the obvious HUA disease you have. You're symptoms are raging.
If you're uninsured and can't afford to go, you can save yourself the cash and just become a LoSuR fan. Coaches there only have to win 1 game a year to satisfy their fanbase and keep their jobs.
Actually, Jerry, you're what's wrong with America. People who passively accept anything and everything thrown their way. You're part of the crowd that form their own version of reality so they don't have to do anything, take responsibiity for their own actions, and then blame others when things don't go the way they want.
While some of you fairweather fans are obviously back aboard after a couple wins, you should hop back off is there are any conditions to you being back on board. If you can only support if we win, you're not a true fan. If you are among the morons who feel inclined to bash the coaches on these boards, in emails, or through the mail--you are not a true fan. Indeed, you're part of what is wrong with sports and our nation.
To the fans who stick by our coaches and players through thick and thin, I tip my SOONER HAT in your honor. The best OU fans (and Okies are as good as any in the country!
