MIDWEST CITY — Police have arrested two people in the death of a man whose body was found burned in a suspicious house fire two weeks ago.

Stephen Segar, 29, and Kelly Charty, 38, face complaints of arson, conspiracy to commit arson, and murder in the death of Gary Scheetz, 47.

Assistant Police Chief Sid Porter said officers were called to a house fire about 8:40 p.m. June 6 at 309 W Lilac Lane and found Scheetz dead at the scene.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Scheetz was found in the living room with extensive burns and trauma to his forehead and neck.

Investigators said they smelled gasoline or lighter fluid at the house and found a gas can next to Scheetz. Blood was found on a bed and in the kitchen, police said.

A witness told officers she was at the house earlier with Segar and Charty. She said Charty left with her and walked her to her nearby residence. The witness said Charty came back to her house later, saying he desperately needed to talk to her.

Charty told one of her family members that he needed to talk to her because “something really bad had happened,” according to the affidavit.

The witness told officers that Charty and Scheetz had a violent history. Records show that Charty was involved in a fight with Scheetz in November and suffered a knife wound to his nose.
