A local newspaper reports that 18-year-old James Jefferson Sanders and 19-year-old Jonathan Michael Hatfield had a first court appearance Tuesday where they were each charged with possession of an explosive device.

Duncan police say the men were pulled over on U.S. 81 on Saturday night for not signaling a turn. Police say the men consented to a search of the pickup, where officers found a thermos with a green fuse coming out of the lid. Authorities say the thermos was filled with gunpowder.

Sanders is being held without bond and Hatfield is in jail on $1 million bond. Court records did not list an attorney for either man.
