McLOUD (AP) — Authorities say two construction workers who became trapped when a trench collapsed near the Kickapoo Casino have died.

Jacktown Fire Chief Greg Ford said Tuesday that the workers were killed and that rescue crews were in a recovery mode. Ford said crews were working to shore up the opening, but the unstable soil hampered their efforts.

The accident occurred on tribal land about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 62 and Oklahoma 102.

Several messages seeking comment and additional information about the accident were not immediately returned by tribal police.
