In the Oklahoma women’s basketball program, the connections between Sooners past and present run deep. As this year’s squad readies for the Final Four in San Antonio, the city where the 2002 team made the program’s first Final Four appearance, The Oklahoman reached out to members from that squad and asked them a simple question.

If you could say anything to this year’s team, what would it be?

Here’s what those former Sooners had to say:

Player, years lettered

→La’Neishea Caufield-Daniels, 1999-2002

"Live in the moment. Breathe, live and enjoy this environment. There’s no feeling like it. You guys have done so awesome. Continue to play with the heart and spirit that you have played with in so many games.

"I hope you will enjoy this experience as much as we did. A job well done, but not yet finished. Now, let’s bring that trophy home!”

→Stacey Dales, 1998-2002

"This year’s Sooners have shown courage amidst adversity, passion throughout the fight and unbridled love for the one next to them. In the process, they have played with grittiness and intelligence, and most of all, they have played for fun. Coach Coale’s ultimate desire ... is to have a team in which you don’t know where one stops and the other begins. This statement couldn’t be more true of the OU women this season.

"With all of this in mind, I couldn’t possibly offer any advice to these unique young women. They’ve got it taken care of completely on their own just as they’ve done all season. My only role is to jump on board for the ride, share in the journey with unrelenting pride, and send the gals my love, appreciation, and support. I am so grateful to be a Sooner.”

→Dionnah Jackson, 2002-2005

"This set of girls, especially these seniors, plays with such passion and pride.
