How it turned out: Still with the Cougars, Mendenhall has turned around the program, going 70-27.

Florida, Ron Zook, 7-5, Urban Meyer, 9-3

How it turned out: Meyer rescued the program, going 65-15 and winning two national titles in six seasons.

LSU, Nick Saban, 9-3, Les Miles, 11-2

How it turned out: Miles has kept the program rolling, going 81-19, winning one national championship game and losing another.

New Mexico St., Tony Samuel, 5-6, Hal Mumme, 0-12

How it turned out: No place to win, Mumme found his spread offense couldn't change things, going 11-38 in four years. He's now at Division III McMurry.

Notre Dame, Ty Willingham, 6-6, Charlie Weis, 9-3

How it turned out: Weis started strong in South Bend, winning nine and 10 games in his first two seasons, but was gone after Year 5 with a 35-27 mark. He's now at KU.
