2012 Governor's Arts Awards announced
The Oklahoma Arts Council will honor 11 individuals and eight organizations for their contributions to the arts during the 37th annual Governor's Arts Awards. Gov. Mary Fallin will present the awards at 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the state Capitol. A public reception follows.
Recipients of the Governor's Award are Don Betz, of Edmond; Christian Keesee, of Oklahoma City; and Charles Ward, of Tulsa. The award recognizes leadership and contributions to the arts.
The Business in the Arts Award will go to AVB Bank of Broken Arrow. The Media in the Arts Award, which demonstrates commitment to the arts through public awareness, support, fairness, initiative, creativity and professionalism in reporting, will go to KOSU Radio in Stillwater, OKIE Magazine in Lawton and Rogers State University Public TV in Claremore.
The Arts in Education Award recognizes an individual, organization, school, educator or group for leadership and service that benefits youth and/or arts in education. Recipients are Choregus Productions of Tulsa, Firehouse Art Center of Norman and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.
The Community Service Award, which recognizes leadership and volunteerism, will go to Bob Palmer, of Bethany; Dolores McClure, of Enid; Laurie Thompson, of Mangum; the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa; and Mary Bryant, Nancy Harris and Marlene Woods, of Arnett.
