The 2013 NBA Finals, matching the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs, averaged 5 percent more viewers than the 2012 finals, between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Miami, but that was because this year's series went seven games while Miami ousted the Thunder in five games.

The 2012 series outrated this year's Finals for each of the first five games, averaging 10.1 compared to 9.1 for this year, an indication of the Thunder's national popularity with stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. For all seven games, this year's finals averaged 10.5, including a 15.3 for Game 7.

The 2013 Finals averaged 17.7 million viewers, up from 16.9 million viewers last year.
