2014 ACM Awards nominations list

The 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards air live from 7 to 10 tonight on CBS, with Miranda Lambert tying fellow superstar Tim McGraw with a leading seven nominations.

Her husband, Blake Shelton, received five nominations, and Carrie Underwood and Thompson Square also were among the musicians with Oklahoma ties to earn nods.

Hosted by four-time ACM Award winner Shelton and reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan, the ACM Awards will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Lambert, who lives in Tishomingo, earned seven nominations, including her third nomination for Entertainer of the Year and eighth consecutive nod for Female Vocalist of the Year. Additionally, Lambert was nominated for Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Video of the Year for “Mama’s Broken Heart,” and twice for Vocal Event of the Year for both “We Were Us” with Keith Urban and “Boys ‘Round Here” as part of the Pistol Annies. Lambert is the reigning ACM Female Vocalist of the Year.

McGraw also received a leading seven nominations, including Video of the Year for “Highway Don’t Care” featuring Taylor Swift and Keith Urban. Also, he is nominated twice for Album of the Year, Single Record of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year awards as both the artist and producer.

Lambert’s husband and fellow Tishomingo denizen Shelton is nominated for five awards, including his third consecutive nomination for Entertainer of the Year and fourth nod for Male Vocalist of the Year. Also, the Ada native received a nomination for Album of the Year for “Based on a True Story …” (produced by fellow Oklahoma native Scott Hendricks), Song of the Year for “Mine Would Be You” and Vocal Event of the Year for “Boys ‘Round Here.”

Checotah native Underwood garnered two nominations, for Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year for “Two Black Cadillacs.”

Thompson Square, which includes Miami, OK, native Keifer Thompson and his wife Shawna, is nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year, a prize the couple has won the past two years.

Once again, fans will help select the winner of both the Academy’s most prestigious honor, Entertainer of the Year and the New Artist of the Year Presented by Kohl’s.

Brett Eldredge, Justin Moore and Kip Moore are the nominees for this year’s ACM New Artist of the Year.

Final round fan voting for the New Artist of the Year category begins at will close at 7 tonight (before the live telecast begins), while fan voting for Entertainer of the Year will continue until the third hour of tonight’s broadcast. To vote, go to www.voteacm.com.
