300 call hotline in gynecologist recording probe
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore police say hundreds of women have called a hotline set up by Johns Hopkins hospital for patients of a gynecologist suspected of secretly recording exams and later killing himself.
Fifty-four-year-old Dr. Nikita Levy was found dead in his Towson home on Monday. Police and Johns Hopkins have said he committed suicide.
Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL'-mee) said Wednesday that investigators have found "a multitude of multimedia" as evidence.
Johns Hopkins said in a statement on its website that officials began investigating Levy after an employee reported that he had been taking pictures and videos of his patients. The noted hospital says it told police and fired Levy on Feb. 8.
Guglielmi says investigators, including federal, are trying to see if anyone else was involved and if the recordings have been posted to the Internet or sold.
