A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday after he was run over by a car during morning drop off at an Oklahoma City Catholic school, police and church officials said.
Quaid Thomas Dolan, 4, was run over about 8 a.m. during morning drop off at Christ the King Catholic School, said Tina Dzurisin, director of communications for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
“It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the painful tragedy that occurred at Christ the King this morning,” the Most Rev. Paul S. Coakley, archbishop of Oklahoma City, said in a statement. “As an archdiocese, we grieve the loss of Quaid Thomas ‘QT’ Dolan and pray for the peace and comfort of all those who are affected by this sad and unexpected occurrence. My sympathy and concern go out especially to the Dolan family and to the entire Christ the King community in this time of suffering.”
Quaid was the son of Sheryl and Brian Dolan and the grandson of Susan and Robert Dolan, all active parishioners at Christ the King Catholic Church; he is survived by five older brothers and a younger sister, according to the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
The incident occurred at the school’s drop-off area off of Greystone Avenue, Oklahoma City police said. The school is near N Pennsylvania Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.
Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said the boy's father was dropping him off about 8 a.m. Tuesday and he was run over as the father pulled away. However, Wardlow said police were continuing their investigation into exactly how it happened.
“Obviously this is a very tragic, unfortunate accident,” Wardlow said.
The father has not been cited for any wrongdoing, she said.
