COURT DATE FOR FLORIDA MAN IN FACEBOOK KILLING CASE

A Florida man accused of killing his wife and posting pictures of her corpse on Facebook is due in a Miami courtroom for a hearing. The hearing Wednesday comes after a grand jury indicted 31-year-old Derek Medina on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of his wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Alonso. Medina has yet to enter a plea to the charge, but his attorneys have said he was acting in self-defense.

2 KEYS MEN GET PRISON FOR WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING

Two Florida Keys men have been sentenced to prison time after pleading guilty to illegal trafficking in wildlife including sharks, tropical fish and sea fans. A federal judge in Key West sentenced 51-year-old Eric Pedersen to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine. A sentence of one year and a day was imposed on 43-year-old Serdan Ercan, along with a $6,000 fine.

EMBATTLED POLICE DEPARTMENT GETS NEW CHIEF

The embattled Tallahassee Police Department is getting a new police chief. Tallahassee City Manager Anita Favors Thompson announced on Tuesday that the city is hiring Michael DeLeo to take over the department. DeLeo is currently deputy police chief for the department in Plantation, Fla.
