The most common question asked of Edmond North's triplet wrestling brothers — Andrew, Joel and Lance Dixon — is if they play jokes on their girlfriends.
Andrew admits they pulled the switcheroo a couple of times.
“We don't mess with any girls now like that,” he said. “When we got into high school, we knocked all that off.”
As much as they look alike, the Dixon brothers, who hope to bring Edmond North its first state championship in wrestling Saturday at the 6A Dual State Wrestling Championships in Claremore, are more different than they are alike.
Most people assume the Dixon brothers are alike in every way, but it is just the opposite. “Lance is the cocky one,” Andrew said.
“I am more outgoing, more talkative — as Andrew puts it, cocky,” Lance said. “I would call it confident. Joel, he is more of the realistic one and not too talkative. Andrew's shy and wants to keep to himself most of the time. We are not the same at all.”
For example, their tastes in music are about as foreign to each other as they could be. Lance likes rap and alternative music. Andrew listens to John Mayer. Joel likes country.
While Joel and Andrew will eat almost anything, Lance is “the pickiest eater you will ever meet in your life,” Joel claims.
Lance doesn't argue the point.
“If it's green, I won't eat it,” he said. “If it's anything you can put on a sandwich other than meat and cheese, I won't eat it.”
They do, however, all hate sushi.
“We are kind of different in all ways,” Andrew said. “Even the way we walk is different. That's how our mom tells us apart sometimes.”
Even their appearances are slightly different. Joel has a scar on the right side of his cheek. Lance has three freckles in the shape of a triangle on his face. Andrew is heavier, wrestling at 220 pounds.
“Most of the time, people can tell Andrew apart because his face is a little bit different from mine and Joel's,” Lance said.
And, even though each is considered the best in the state at their respective weights this season (Lance at 182 and Joel at 195), their wrestling styles are not the same.
