Up to eight Morris Public Schools students suffered minor injuries Monday morning after a woman following too closely struck the back of their school bus, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

About 7:45 a.m., the school bus and the woman were heading west on State Highway 62 in Okmulgee County, just east of Morris. When the bus slowed to turn south on S 300 Road, the woman’s vehicle hit the bus.

Patrol Capt. George Brown said up to eight children suffered minor injuries. Brown said none were taken to the hospital and parents were alerted.

The school bus was carrying students from the district’s elementary, middle and high schools, said James Lyons, Morris Public Schools superintendent.

Another bus was sent to pick up the students and take them to their respective schools, he said.

Troopers reported 20 juveniles were on the bus during the crash and that both driving parties were wearing their seat belts.
