92-year-old Viola Thomas wins nursing home pageant

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Viola Thomas at 92 years old has been crowned Ms. Alabama Nursing Home at a pageant at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.

Thomas is a resident of Willow Trace Nursing Center in Butler. She was crowned Monday afternoon after coming out on top among 10 finalists. As the winner, she will travel around the state sharing her experiences at nursing homes and community events.

At Willow Trace, Thomas is vice president of the resident council, a member of the Red Hat Society and the welcoming committee.

Other top finishers were 1st runner-up, 62-year-old Terry Jean Camp of Athens; 2nd runner-up, 82-year-old Kathryn Hale Ezell of Florence; 3rd runner-up, 60-year-old Clara Jepson of Cullman, and 4th runner-up, 69-year-old Nona Sims of Enterprise.

The finalists answered questions from a panel of judges.
