GREW UP IN: Tarkio, Mo.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in agronomy, the study of crop production.

CAREER: Full-time family farmer before serving in the Missouri Legislature from 1993-2000. Elected to the House of Representatives from Missouri's Sixth Congressional District in 2000, is now in his sixth term. Became chairman of the House Small Business Committee in 2011. Still owns a farm that produces corn and soybeans.

FAMILY: Wife, Lesley, is a teacher. They have three children, Megan, Trey and Emily.

HOBBIES: Pilots private planes including a World War II North American T-6.

WILL HE WATCH THE NCAA FINAL FOUR ALTHOUGH SECOND-SEEDED MISSOURI WAS KNOCKED OUT IN THE FIRST ROUND?: Yes, "but I'm very frustrated by the fact that Missouri did not show up for the game. And Kansas is in the Final Four. I'm very frustrated by that."
