When Nancy Miller created "Saving Grace," the hit TNT cop drama starring Holly Hunter, she wanted a city that fit the style and personality of her lead character, Grace Hanadarko. So she picked the city where she grew up -- the place she knows best.

Part of the reason was Oklahoma City style and culture, and Miller had more knowledge about Oklahoma City's deft blend of couture style and rural charm than most of the people in her industry.

When "Saving Grace" returns with new episodes July 14, it will be a year since Miller started courting both praise and criticism for her depiction of Oklahoma City -- some viewers complain that it focuses too much on the Western elements and not on Oklahoma City's sophisticated urban streak. Miller said her take on Oklahoma City comes down, at least in part, to her own personal taste and style.

"I think cowboys are sexy as hell," Miller said. "You put a guy in jeans and cowboy boots, and forget it. I love that style, and I love to see Grace in cowboy boots. There's a sexiness of Oklahoma City and the men there that I just love, and of course Southern women are beautiful. It's a different style than out here in L.A. or in New York, definitely. But that's what I like about it."
