A look at the area forecast discussion from the National Weather Service, Norman

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service, Norman (As of 3:34 p.m. Monday):

“Fire weather has become an issue this afternoon with gusty southwest winds. Red Flag Warning was issued this afternoon with these windy conditions and low humidity.

“Winds are expected to diminish relatively quickly this evening. But strong southwest winds will redevelop across the area after sunrise Tuesday ahead of a strong cold front.

“Even stronger north winds are forecast behind this cold front, therefore we have issued both a wind advisory and fire weather watch for tomorrow.

“These post-frontal winds will remain strong and gusty into the overnight hours tomorrow night. Current indications in the numeric models are for the chances of light precipitation to remain northeast of the forecast area on Tuesday night, so have removed the pops in the north. Temperatures will become near or slightly above normal for late this week.

“The medium range models show some significant disagreement with the pattern evolution early next week with ecmwf bringing another shot of cooler air into the southern plains while the operational gfs keeps things quite warm. The 12z mex numbers for Sunday/Monday are quite a bit warmer than the 00z guidance and the gfs ensemble members are quite varied with the evolution of the mid-tropospheric pattern driving these differences. So have gone with a forecast closer to the cooler ecmwf forecast.”
