Weatherford offensive lineman Wes Sims committed to the University of Oklahoma on a handshake with Sooner coach Bob Stoops, his mother said Tuesday evening.

Sims, who will be a senior for the Eagles this fall, had narrowed his decision between Texas and Oklahoma. He had also received scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Penn State said his mother, Linn Sims.

The commitment won't be official until signing day next winter.

"He had a big, major choice to make between Texas and OU, but he's born and bred a Sooner and a Sooner he shall die I guess," Linn Sims said by telephone. "He and coach Stoops shook hands on it today about 4:25. We went to Norman to kind of make it official, and their whole coaching staff seemed very excited."

Sims attended a Texas camp this summer and has also attended camps at OSU and Nebraska, a combine at Texas A&M and had made an unofficial visit to Penn State.

He's 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds and according to one recruiting service runs a 4.9 40-yard dash.

"I toured both schools (Texas and Oklahoma) and I'd hate to have been in the kid's shoes," said Linn Sims.

The Sooners had previously received early commitments from Fort Gibson running back Teddy Lehman (6-1, 215) and Linden, Texas, running back Rudy Wells (6-1, 195).
