A teenage 'Duck Dynasty' in Marlow

He's only a sophomore in high school, but Jackson White seems to have found his calling.

The comparisons to “Duck Dynasty” never cease for White, but there is one big difference between the Marlow teen and the duck call makers from West Monroe, La.

“I'm only 15,” White said. “I can't grow a beard yet.”

White is no threat to the Duck Commander's empire yet, but he has turned the garage at his Marlow home into a duck call factory of his own.

White makes and sells his own duck calls under the brand name of Fowled Out Custom Calls.

“Every day after school I go home and make (duck calls) for three or four hours,” White said. “On Saturdays, I spend about seven or eight hours making calls. It's very time-consuming.”

Fed up with the high price of duck calls, White decided to start making and selling his own after watching tutorial videos on YouTube.

“I got tired of paying for the name, paying $100 for each call,” he said. “I just watched YouTube. I bought all the stuff (to make calls) and it was trial and error from there.”

He invested $2,000 to start the business, buying a wood lathe, carving tools, a drill press, wood and acrylic blanks, and the inserts.

White uses Cocobolo wood, a tropical hardwood from Central America, to make the calls because it is supposedly the best sounding wood for duck calls.
