MOORE — Chuck Goleman has had a very merry Christmas.

The 67-year-old Vietnam veteran lost his home and his job when the May 20 tornado destroyed the two Moore houses he was watching as a caretaker.

This week, he drove away in a reconditioned 2009 Honda Accord donated by AAA Oklahoma.

Insurance provided

The auto club and insurance company provided the vehicle, a six-month car insurance policy and a one-year AAA membership. Body Works Collision Centers restored the vehicle, and Hertz chipped in a $250 gasoline voucher. The Oklahoma Disaster Recovery project selected Goleman as the recipient.

Goleman said receiving the vehicle is a life-changer for him.

“Now I can go up instead of down all the time,” he said. “This will help me turn things around and grow. That's what I am going to try and do now — help other people, like I've been helped.”

The car had been totaled earlier this year because of hail damage.

This is the second year AAA Oklahoma and Body Works have teamed up to donate a reconditioned car.

“This should give him a pretty merry Christmas,” AAA Oklahoma spokesman Chuck Mai said of Goleman and the car.
