ABC analyst: OSU's Brandon Weeden ahead of Stanford's Andrew Luck in Heisman race

Wischusen, who also broadcasts New York Jets games on radio, said, “If they wanted to play this game out, they could have scored 100 points today. That's how good they've been.”

The pair discussed a number of exciting topics for Cowboys fans, including a potential matchup against LSU for the national title and Brandon Weeden's Heisman Trophy chances.

Both said they looked forward to an LSU-OSU matchup in the national title game Jan. 9 at the Louisiana Superdome. “If we get the matchup of LSU and their defense – an NFL-level secondary – against Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon and their offense,” Wischusen said, “that might be the most interesting matchup we can get for the national championship.”

Davie, a former Notre Dame head coach, said LSU's secondary would present problems for OSU. “All of a sudden, the short swings and the curls are taken away because of bump-and-run, man-to-man coverage,” he said. “LSU's offense is going to line it up and run it … I think it would be a classic, classic game of different styles.”

Davie also boosted Weeden's Heisman Trophy campaign, giving him an edge over Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. “Right now the way Weeden is playing and as accurate as he is throwing, you would have to say he is ahead of Luck.”

Wischusen cautioned Davie that much of the nation probably would disagree with him and noted that Luck doesn't have the luxury of OSU's talented receivers, including Justin Blackmon.

Davie took issue with some NFL Draft experts failing to rank Weeden among their top five quarterbacks, calling him a first-round draft choice. “We've watched a lot of tape of Weeden,” he said.” I think I'm most impressed with how well he throws the bubble screens and the swing screens and how quickly he gets rid of the ball.”

However, Davie missed badly on when he thought OSU coach Mike Gundy would pull Weeden from the game. He predicted Weeden wouldn't even start the second half, but backup quarterback Clint Chelf didn't enter the game until late in the third quarter.
