Abortion terms political, not scientific

Dale Wares (Your Views, March 11) claims “rationality or science rarely intrudes on the anti-abortion argument” and denies “the morning after pill is the same as an abortion. Since the morning after pill prevents the implantation of a fertilized egg in a woman's uterus, this is hardly an abortion.” Actually, a standard embryology textbook by Bruce M. Carlson, M.D., opens with, “Human pregnancy begins with the fusion of the egg and the sperm ...” If Wares studied embryology he would know that his “fertilized egg” is a human being killed by the morning after pill. Wares' definition of abortion is political, not scientific.
