RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The snow, sleet and freezing rain are creating problems for the major electric utilities in North Carolina.

Up to an inch of ice is expected in the eastern part of the state Wednesday and Thursday.

Early Wednesday, the utilities reported about 2,000 customers without service.

Duke reports about 1,600 customers are without service in the Wilmington area.

The utility said about 400 customers are without service in the western part of the state, most in Henderson County.
