Accident on U.S. 70 claims Durant man

Samuel R. Cruz, 30, of Durant, died when he was pinned between a pickup and a trailer Tuesday evening on U.S. 70, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A Durant man died when he was pinned between a pickup and a trailer Tuesday evening, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

About 6 p.m., Samuel R. Cruz, 30, was stopped along U.S. 70, just east of Durant in Bryan County, and was picking up debris that had fallen off a trailer when an eastbound pickup hit the trailer, according to a patrol report.

Cruz died at the scene. He was pinned between the trailer and the pickup that was hauling it, troopers said.

The driver of the eastbound pickup, Eddie Claborn Jr., 82, of Durant, was treated and released from a hospital.
