— A cherry picker being used on a roofing project at a Norman church toppled over Thursday morning with one worker aboard.

The accident happened just after 10 a.m. at McFarlin United Methodist Church, 419 S University Blvd.

Senior Pastor Linda Harker said firefighters and an ambulance responded to the accident scene. The worker inside the cherry picker suffered injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening, she said.

Crews have been working for several weeks to replace the church’s 100-year-old tile roof.

Harker said the church’s day care center, which was near where the accident happened, was shut down for the day “to ensure everyone’s safety,” she said.

The injured man was taken to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment, Harker said.
