Guitarist Frank Vignola will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Oklahoma City Community College in the Bruce Owen Theater.
Vignola has performed as the guitarist of choice of such musicians as Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops and Les Paul. The New York Times deemed him “one of the brightest … stars of the guitar,” according to the biography on his website.
Vignola, raised in the New York area, started playing the guitar at age 6 and was a fan of jazz, classical, rock, R&B and pop music.
Vignola studied at the Cultural Arts Center of Long Island and went on to play and record with the likes of Madonna, Leon Redbone and Ringo Starr. He came into his own in 1988 with his Hot Club of France tribute, which was hailed in The New York Times as one of the top 10 acts in New York City in 1988, according to his biography.
In recent years, Vignola has recorded two collaborative CD's, “Just Between Frets” with Tommy Emmanuel on Solid Air Records and “Frank 'N' Dawg, Melody Monsters” with mandolinist David Grisman on Acoustic Disc Records.
Vignola has written 18 guitar instruction books and has recorded six educational DVDs. He has conducted hundreds of clinics and master classes at universities and colleges throughout the world including Julliard and Boston University. Currently, Vignola is touring worldwide.
