Some birds died last year because of the virus. But birds that survived last year's West Nile outbreak generally have developed immunities to the virus, and therefore, can no longer serve as hosts, Bradley said.
Bradley said even though there have only been two cases, people should still use repellent and take precautions while spending time outdoors.
“We don't want people to get complacent just because they're not hearing about the large number of human cases of illness this summer,” Bradley said. “It is still possible they could encounter a mosquito carrying the virus.”
