Attorney General Drew Edmondson filed two motions in 24 hours to preserve Oklahoma's immigration reform law that goes into effect Thursday.

Edmondson asked a federal court in Tulsa on Monday to dismiss a second lawsuit filed by opponents of the new immigration law. That second lawsuit was filed last week, three days after a federal judge dismissed the first one.

On Tuesday, Edmondson filed a motion asking the court to reject these same opponents' request for a temporary injunction to block the immigration law from going into effect. A hearing is set for 2 p.m. today in federal court on the request.

"The first lawsuit was dismissed because the judge ruled the plaintiffs could not show how they have been harmed by a law that has yet to go into effect,” Sandy Rinehart, senior assistant attorney general for Edmondson, said. "We believe that to also be true of this second challenge.
