Ailing Sooners drop debut

ARLINGTON, Texas — With Heisman quarterback Sam Bradford and All-America tight end Jermaine Gresham back for another year, Oklahoma’s season began with aspirations of winning an eighth national title.

Saturday night, those dreams were all but dashed as Bradford and Gresham watched Brigham Young stun the third-ranked Sooners 14-13 at Cowboys Stadium from the sidelines.

Bradford injured his throwing shoulder late in the second quarter when he was plowed into the ground by linebacker Coleby Clawson.

Bradford was diagnosed with a shoulder separation. He missed the rest of the game, and could be out much longer, depending on the severity of the sprain.

Coach Bob Stoops said after the game he won’t know the seriousness of the injury until MRI results come back on Bradford’s shoulder either today or Monday.

Gresham, who was injured earlier in the week, missed the game due to cartilage damage in his knee.

Stoops said he’s unsure how long Gresham will be held out.
