Departures have decreased at Will Rogers World Airport by more than 10 percent in 2009 and nearly 13 percent at Tulsa International Airport.

Karen Carney, a spokeswoman for Will Rogers World Airport, said the 7 percent drop in passengers in October was still "feeling a little bit better” compared to the double-digit drops experienced in some months earlier this year.

She was cautiously optimistic about the upcoming holidays.

"We know it will probably be busy. Planes will be full. But some of the airlines have cut capacity, so there won’t be as many planes as in the past,” she said.

Traditionally, the busiest travel days are the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving. But this year, people were more flexible with their travel dates to get better deals on airfare, she said.
