MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Former Marseille coach Albert Emon has re-joined the club as its new sporting director.
The French first division club announced the move on its website late Monday. Emon will work closely alongside interim manager Jose Anigo, who stepped in to replace Elie Baup after he was sacked in December.
Marseille is looking for a long-term coach with Anigo not expected to carry on beyond the end of this season.
Emon had two spells as Marseille boss, in the 2001-02 and 2006-07 seasons. Last year he helped Ajaccio successfully avoided relegation.
Marseille has slipped down to ninth place in Ligue 1, with tensions mounting. Although it will move up to fifth if it wins its game in hand against Valenciennes on Wednesday.
