JAY — Alcohol and driving at excessive high speeds were factors in a one-car accident involving an off-duty Delaware County deputy, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report released Monday.

Lance Fields, 35, of Grove is hospitalized at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., in critical condition, said hospital representatives.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office confirmed Fields has a broken back and possibly a broken neck and was placed in an induced coma.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Fields lost control of his vehicle and struck a road sign before running off the side of the U.S. 60 near Wyandotte on Saturday around 1:43 a.m.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol report stated there was an "odor of alcohol beverage” around Fields and that his vehicle was traveling at "an unsafe speed” for the type of roadway.
Patrol spokeswoman trooper Betsy Randolph said Fields' blood was drawn at the hospital. Tests results could take as long as five weeks, she said.
Randolph said information involving the accident is still under investigation.
After running off the road, Field's vehicle overturned twice with the vehicle coming to rest on its top, ejecting Fields 42 feet from his vehicle, the patrol reported.
Fields works for a district attorney's drug task force and has been with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office for more than three years.

Was he buckled up? They include that when it's anyone else. And for the drinking and driving he will probably be given a slap on the wrist at the most.
