Then came the daunting task of writing a follow-up batch of tunes for their next release, which took another year and a half.

"It was frustrating finding a comfortable place to write,” Wheeler said. "Anymore, we can’t stay in the same place for more than about two weeks.”

So, Wheeler and Ritter rented a remote cabin in Rabun County, Ga., where "Deliverance” was filmed, which inspired a couple of songs. Then, they moved on to Vancouver for a couple of weeks and came up with a little more new music, then down to New Orleans, out to San Francisco, and so on.

Now, the album’s done. The first single, "Gives You Hell,” has already been hailed by People Magazine as "the male answer to ‘You Oughta Know’,” and Wheeler’s just looking for some brief down time at home.

"I actually just got myself a little place in Stillwater,” he said, "to be by ‘the fam’ when I go through town.”
