PLAYER OF THE YEAR

JON DENNEY, YUKON

Position: Catcher

Class: Senior

The story: Denney hit .459 with 11 home runs and 46 RBIs this season but was just as valuable behind the plate, where virtually no one tried to run on the Millers. Denney, who has signed with Arkansas, was recently picked by the Red Sox in the third round of the MLB Draft.

AUSTIN O'BRIEN, OWASSO

Position: First baseman

Class: Senior

The story: O'Brien was the best player on the best team in the state. O'Brien hit .411 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs to help the Rams become the first 6A champion to go undefeated.

TREY MICHALCZEWSKI, JENKS

Position: Second baseman

Class: Senior

The story: Michalczewski helped the Trojans made the Class 6A state tournament by hitting .449 with 9 home runs and 46 RBIs. The Oklahoma signee was recently drafted by the White Sox in the seventh round.

DREW WARD, LEEDEY

Position: Shortstop

Class: Senior

The story: Ward was a sophomore last year but reclassified to graduate this year and enter the MLB Draft. He hit .507 with 9 home runs, 13 stolen bases and 39 RBIs. He was also solid in limited time on the mound, going 1-0 with a 1.24 ERA. Ward was picked in the third round by the Washington Nationals. He's also signed with Oklahoma, though he seems likely to go pro.

GAVIN LAVALLEY, CARL ALBERT

Position: Third Baseman

Class: Junior

The story: LaValley opened eyes last year but really blossomed as a junior, trimming down and showing versatility by moving to third base. He was excellent as usual in the state tournament, delivering a two-run home run — his 20th of the season — in the Titans' semifinal win over Noble. More than half of his home runs went to the opposite field. He also finished with 76 RBIs.
