All-State football: Lawton MacArthur's Daniel Schwarz grabs colleges' attention

It wasn't only Schwarz's big leg that drew college attention. He impressed scouts last summer with his ability to kick field goals without a tee, as required at the college level.

“I went to some camps and they started making me kick off the ground. I wasn't looking forward to that,” he said. “But once I got into the grove, it went well.”

As for his senior year at Lawton MacArthur, Schwarz didn't disappoint. He made eight of 18 field goals (long of 47 yards) and all 65 of his extra-point tries, while putting more than 90 percent of his kickoffs in the end zone for touchbacks.

Losing in the Class 5A finals still stings, but Schwarz can look back on the successes of his senior year.

“The last game was a heartbreaker,” he said. “But we had a real good season and played really well, so I'm happy for what we accomplished.”
