All-State football: Trey'Vonne Barr'e finishes as Jenks' leading rusher

JENKS — As Jenks coach Allan Trimble watched Trey'Vonne Barr'e grow up as a football player from junior high to the varsity level, the coach saw the potential for a dynamic utility player.

He saw Barr'e, now 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, as a dangerous weapon who could play running back, slot receiver and kick returner, and be a threat to score every time he touched the ball.
Instead, Barr'e became the leading rusher in Jenks history.
On a list of running backs that includes dominant performances from the likes of Rocky Calmus, Kejuan Jones, Chris Adkins, Zach Langer, Alex Ross and several in between, Barr'e has topped them all.
He finished with 4,752 career yards after posting 2,229 yards and 30 touchdowns on 230 carries in 2012 to earn The Oklahoman's Offensive Player of the Year honor.
To be the career rushing leader at Jenks holds a profound meaning to Barr'e.
“It's special,” he said. “There's a lot of great running backs that have come through Jenks, so for me to do that is big to me.”
Barr'e's durability and big-play talent helped him pile up yards, even though he only got the chance to be the Trojans' featured back for a full season in his senior year.
“We haven't done the research yet, so we don't know exactly how many carries it took him to break the record, but we think that it's not as many as the rest of them,” Trimble said. “He's not very big, but he's so strong and well-developed, he doesn't get hurt very often. He gets nicked up, but he never misses a game.”
Barr'e averaged 9.7 yards per carry as a senior, powering Jenks' offensive attack that peaked late in the season and helped carry the Trojans to their first state title since 2007.
