The state Election Board on Tuesday certified last week’s House District 55 results, clearing the way for Russ, of Cordell, to take his oath of office.

The board approved voting results that showed Russ, a Republican, defeated Democrat Larry Peck, 3,029 to 2,388.

About 31.5 percent of registered voters turned out for the House District election. The western Oklahoma district covers Washita County and parts of Caddo, Canadian and Kiowa counties.

Russ plans to be sworn in at 2 p.m. today in the House chamber. He will increase the Republican majority in the House to 62 members, the highest in Oklahoma’s history. Democrats will drop to 39.

Russ will succeed Democrat Ryan McMullen, who resigned in the summer to take a federal post.
