Legislation that seeks to limit a woman’s access to abortions was declared unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court.

In an opinion handed down Tuesday, the court said the legislation, which contains several provisions including requiring ultrasounds for women seeking abortions and limiting a woman’s access to pregnancy-ending drugs, violated the state’s constitution that says legislation is limited to one subject.

The state’s high court upheld a decision Oklahoma County District Judge Vicki Robertson, who said the bill was unconstitutional because it contained provisions with several different subjects.

In the opinion, the jurists said: "We are growing weary of admonishing the Legislature for so flagrantly violating the terms of the Oklahoma Constitution. It is a waste of time for the Legislature and the Court, and a waste of the taxpayers’ money.”

Lawmakers already havefiled separate legislation that includes the same provisions as the multiple-subject bill.

A measure that would require ultrasounds for those women seeking abortions passed the House on Tuesday.
